Type a value in any of the four boxes. The other three update instantly. The conversion factors come from NIST and ISO 80000-4: 1 ft-lb equals 1.355 817 948 Nm (rounded; the exact value is in the FAQ below), and 1 Nm equals 0.737 562 149 ft-lb. For reference, 1 ft-lb equals 12 in-lb, and 1 kg-cm equals 0.098 066 5 Nm. The page does no rounding on input, and you can type a comma or a point for decimals. Display is rounded to 2 decimal places by default (choose 2, 4 or 6 under the converter); the underlying value is precise.
100 Nm is 73.76 ft-lb (foot-pounds, also written lb-ft). To convert, multiply Nm by 0.7376. More on the 100 Nm to ft-lbs page, or see the full Nm to ft-lb chart (1 to 300 Nm).
140 Nm is 103.26 ft-lb (foot-pounds, also written lb-ft). To convert, multiply Nm by 0.7376. More on the 140 Nm to ft-lbs page, or see the full Nm to ft-lb chart (1 to 300 Nm).
40 Nm is 29.50 ft-lb (foot-pounds, also written lb-ft). To convert, multiply Nm by 0.7376. More on the 40 Nm to ft-lbs page, or see the full Nm to ft-lb chart (1 to 300 Nm).
20 Nm is 14.75 ft-lb (foot-pounds, also written lb-ft). To convert, multiply Nm by 0.7376. More on the 20 Nm to ft-lbs page, or see the full Nm to ft-lb chart (1 to 300 Nm).
25 Nm is 18.44 ft-lb (foot-pounds, also written lb-ft). To convert, multiply Nm by 0.7376. More on the 25 Nm to ft-lbs page, or see the full Nm to ft-lb chart (1 to 300 Nm).
200 Nm is 147.51 ft-lb (foot-pounds, also written lb-ft). To convert, multiply Nm by 0.7376. More on the 200 Nm to ft-lbs page, or see the full Nm to ft-lb chart (1 to 300 Nm).
Most family cars sit around 110 to 130 Nm (about 81 to 96 ft-lbs). The figure is set by the vehicle maker, not the wheel type, so always check your owner's manual or service data: larger SUVs, vans and performance cars can need more. Over-tightening can stretch the studs; under-tightening lets wheels work loose. Many tyre fitters recommend re-checking after about 50 miles.
It depends on the bolt size and grade (8.8, 10.9 or 12.9, stamped on the head). As a guide, a dry M10 grade 8.8 bolt is about 50 Nm (37 ft-lb). See the full metric bolt torque chart, and always use the manufacturer's figure where one is given.
Yes, for torque they are the same amount. Strictly, lb-ft (pound-foot, force times distance) is the preferred way to write torque, and it is what SAE and most US car manuals use. ft-lbs (foot-pounds) is what many torque wrenches and people say. This site shows both.
1 ft-lb (lbf-ft) is exactly 1.355 817 948 331 400 4 Nm, because 1 ft is exactly 0.3048 m and 1 lbf is exactly 4.448 221 615 260 5 N (NIST SP 811). So 1 Nm is 0.737 562 149 ft-lb. The converter uses the full value and only rounds what it shows.
